E-Learning ---Mod 9 Assignment 1

I used Raptivity to create this interactive puzzle.

Mount Rushmore, boring? Click on the image to see one example of an interactive e-learning tool.
I found Raptivity to be very user friendly and flexible enough for all types of projects.

Camtasia Video - Mod 6 Assignment 3

How do I import online course materials into my new internet course from a previous semester?
This question is asked many times, so in order not to be repetitve, I created a short "how to" camtasia recording of the process.

Using Camtasia to show how to do a process on your computer saves a ton of phone calls and time.

Mod. 7 Assignment 2 Creating a Survey

I used Survey Monkey to create a survey for this section in my online course. The free online survey tool was easy to use and I will definitly use it again.

Included in this survey were four specific questions relating to our online faculty support site.
1. how useful is this site in finding information?
2. any suggestions for improving the site?
3. have to visited this site before?
4. how would you rate the knowledgebase in this site?

The results were fasinating!!
15 people responded and the most interesting data was where they were allowed to leave comments or suggestions (2. & 4.). Most were helpful suggestions or comments but some were posting problems not related to the survey.

My first tip in creating a survey is to do a test run to determine if the question types are appropriate for the desired data to be collected.

Google Talk

Add me to your Google Talk list!
ca.baker.ca@gmail.com

Question: Could this be used for distance learning? Absolutly! This is an excellent communication resource. Not only can you speak to each other, but you can chat also.
Question: Would this be more convenient than the chat feature in WebCT for online office hours? Yes! No question.
Question: What advantages, if any, might it offer? The best advantage at this point is there is no cost. (thank you web2)

Wow, this was a lesson learned. There are changes I would have made if there were more time. I had a definite challenge with attempting to meld three different sounds in the video, hope you will enjoy the video even though the audio needs work.

Back on Track...again.

Sorry for the lag in posts, it has been a while.
I have been attending great conferences during the past month, all out of town.

The ANGEL Users Conference 2007 was held in Indianapolis, Illinois and we had wonderful opportunities to learn new techniques and meet other ANGEL users from accross the country with a few international folks also.

CIT 2007 was another terrific conference held at Plattsburgh University N.Y. in the Andirondack community referred to as the Adirondack Coast. The city of Plattsburgh borders Lake Champlain.

Now, back to the course work...

Why not use audio in online courses?

Listen to the audio file

[Text Version] "I believe some instructors don't use
audio or sound files when they are
teaching an online course because...

1. Their teaching methods have never
included audio. Do not know how,
unaware that audio can be added.
2. Most are not willing to learn the
technology, they feel intimidated and
are uncomfortable with the technology
to begin with.
3. Time constraints, teaching online
requires more time than a seated class.
4. They may not be pleased when they
hear how they sound on an audio file. I
know I am not comfortable hearing my
recorded voice and would definitly shy
away."

RSS SUCCESS

My bulldog attitude for solving problems came into play and was able to track down my error in the RSS assignment. This is a wonderful piece of technology and I am definitly passing this knowledge along to my colleagues.

My ambition is to expose our online faculty to the possibilities of alternative online tools to use in their course sites. I recently learned that the next version of ANGEL will include a blog right in the course site.

(Oh the possibilities of !!)

Progressing to the next phase of study...

I am thrilled & excited to learn how to apply and effectly use the technologies we will be learning in this course.
The next step is RSS Feeds. This link takes you to Wikipedia for an explanation of RSS.
Anyone is able to include up to the minute newsfeeds on your website or blog on just about any news topic.
Check back for updates...

Does anybody read these things?

What's Next?

Well we have the Internet and Web2 what's next?
I believe Web3 will be Second Life or something similar, a virtual world where you can do just about anything from a computer. (shopping, education, etc.)
